What is EVO Japan 2023?
The Evolution Championship Series (EVO for short) is the world's largest and longest-running fighting game tournament. EVO Japan has been held in Japan, the birthplace of fighting games.
For 20 years, EVO has brought together the best fighters from around the world, and their skills have brought excitement to the spectator. A wonderful event is held once a year, and it is an open tournament where everyone can participate, and we are gathering to praise the competitiveness of players and fans.
Three years after the 2020 event, its Japanese edition of the biggest fighting game festival returns as a new EVO Japan!
What are the main tournament titles used in EVO JAPAN 2023?
EVO Japan 2023 features the following seven titles:

When and where will EVO JAPAN 2023 be held?
The EVO JAPAN 2023 will be held at the Tokyo Big Sight South Exhibition Hall 1 and 2 for three days from March 31 (Fri) to April 2 (Sun), 2023.
Can I win a prize at EVO JAPAN 2023?
Yes, tournament top placers can win medals, trophies, and money. The prize money will be distributed to at least the top eight people in each tournament.
Want to visit and watch EVO Japan 2023 on-site?
Admission to EVO Japan 2023 Day1-Day2 will be free and unrestricted. However, admission may be restricted depending on how crowded the venue is. Day 3 will be open only to those with paid tickets. Check here and buy the ticket now.
I want to participate in EVO JAPAN 2023 as a player.
EVO JAPAN 2023 is an open tournament for everyone. To participate as a player, you need to register instart.gg in advance.
What are entry passes and tickets by title?
Each player will receive an entry pass for each participating title at the on-site registration desk. To watch the final tournament on Day 3, a paid spectator ticket (Day 3) is required.
The entry pass for each title is for the tournament to be held March 31-April 1, 2023 (Day1-Day2) at Tokyo Big Sight, South Exhibition Hall South 1 and South 2. Tournaments can be applied on start.gg.
Title-specific entry passes must be worn and fully visible at all times while at the venue. One title-specific entry pass will be given for each participating title.
Tickets are paid tickets as spectators for EVO Japan 2023 Day 3, which will be held on Sunday, April 2. Check here and buy the ticket now.
All title-specific entry passes and tickets will be redeemable.
Where can I pick up my entry pass?
Please pick up your entry pass by title at the registration desk located in front of the entrance to the South Exhibition Halls 1 and 2 of the South Exhibition Hall at Tokyo Big Sight. Please be sure to carry your valid ID (passport, driver's license, student ID, residence card, etc.) and the confirmation email you received when you registered on start.gg with you during the event. Only you or a legally responsible person will be allowed to receive a pass for entry by title.
In addition, participants under 18 years of age must have a parental consent form. Please refer to the Tournament Rules for more information. The Registration Center will be open from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. JST on Thursday, March 30, 2023; hours for picking up title-specific entry passes on Friday, March 31 will be posted prior to the event.
What about refunds, exchanges, transfers, and cancellations?
All title-specific passes and paid tickets (Day 3) cannot be refunded, exchanged, or transferred. If EVO Japan 2023 is cancelled, the ticket will be refunded. Resale of pass or ticket by title is strictly prohibited. EVO Japan 2023 entry passes and tickets by title will be invalid unless purchased through the official start.gg or authorized ticket sales service.
What happens if you lose your entry pass or spectator ticket (day3)?
Please manage the entry pass and spectator tickets at your own risk. If you lose your pass, please contact the venue acceptance or information center. If your ticket is lost or stolen, you will not be able to replace or receive a refund.
I will participate as a player, do I need an entry pass for my family and supporters to enter?
No, day1-day2 is free! However, please note that entry may be restricted if it is crowded.
Can children participate in EVO Japan 2023?
Children must be at least 13 years old to participate in EVO Japan 2023 tournaments. Those under the age of 18 need to sign documents for their parents to participate in the competition. Age requirements may vary by game title. Please check tournament rules.
Children under 6 years of age may enter with a parent or guardian for Day1-Day2. Preschool children are admitted free of charge to Day 3 spectator events. However, if seats are required, children of all ages must have a paid ticket (Day 3) to enter Day 3 of EVO Japan 2023.
Can I participate in the tournament anytime?
EVO Japan is an open tournament and open to all players, but you must pre-register for the tournament through start.gg by 23:59 JST on February 28, 2023. Once the application period has ended, you will not be able to register for the EVO Japan 2023 tournament.
Where can I find more information about the tournament format, schedule, and rules?

Where can I pick up my entry pass for each title?
The EVO Japan 2023 Registration Booth will be open for the pickup of entry passes during the event. The registration desk is located in front of the entrance to the Tokyo Big Sight South Exhibition Halls South 1 and South 2.
It is recommended that you receive the pass in advance acceptance period. Pre-attendance is open from 5 pm to 9 pm on Thursday, March 30, 2023. Pickups on the day of the event will be very crowded, so please be careful as EVO Japan does not offer guarantees for those who are late due to the delay in pick-up.

Where should I contact during the event?
On Friday and Saturday, tournament management staff will be available at the Command Center in the centre of the Big Sight venue. There will also be staff at the Information Center during the entire event. If you need assistance or have general questions, please use that location.

Will there be exhibitor booths at EVO Japan 2023?
Yes, we will have exhibitor booths at EVO Japan 2023. Details of the exhibition booths will be announced at a later date.

Are there any safety precautions and requests for EVO Japan 2023?
If you are planning to attend, please read, understand and cooperate with the measures for preventing infectious diseases listed below.
Infection Prevention Guidelines
EVO Japan 2023 will be conducted in accordance with the guidelines provided by the Japanese government, local government (Tokyo Metropolitan Government), public organizations, and venues for the prevention of new coronavirus infection. Please make sure to read and understand the guidelines and precautions before applying to participate in the event or purchasing tickets.
Please note that the contents of the guidelines are subject to change as they are revised.
Personal information submitted in the admission management process will be collected for the purpose of preventing the outbreak and spread of infectious diseases and improving and promoting public health and may be provided in response to requests from the national and local governments and related organizations, including public health centres involved in the fight against new coronavirus infection. Are there any guidelines for filming and broadcasting?
EVO Japan is a public event that gathers local, national and international news coverage. At the venue, portraits and sounds of guests, portraits and voices of children protected by guests may be taken or broadcast. EVO Japan has a large media team and you may be filmed or interviewed by them.
Those who participate in EVO Japan 2023 can take pictures and videos as long as they follow the following restrictions:
Restrictions
・Any photography that would interfere with players' fair competition is strictly prohibited.
・Photography for commercial use without EVO Japan's permission, photography using flash, and video shooting is prohibited.
・You are not allowed to use interchangeable or removable lenses larger than 50mm.
・Flash photography, camera mounts, and static lighting are not available. Also, it is not possible to take fixed photographs using equipment other than hand-held equipment such as tripods.
・Please refrain from taking pictures that block the view of the aisle or the stage. For long-lasting photographs such as interviews, please go to the end of the venue.
Are there any restrictions on what I can bring or what is prohibited?
The following items may not be brought into or used within the EVO Japan 2023 venue.
・Professional cameras with interchangeable or removable lenses of 50 mm or more in length
・Tripods
・Drones
・Weapons, firearms, pocket knives, mace, and pepper spray are not allowed.
・Noisemakers (air horns, whistles, bells, vuvuzelas, etc.)
・Balloons, beach balls, Frisbees, and other projectiles
・Illegal drugs or substances
・Flammable liquids, aerosol cans, permanent markers
・Flashlights, laser pointers, flares, fireworks
・Cigarette and vape smoking
・Running in the venue
・Skateboards, Segways, scooters, rollerblades, bicycles, hoverboards
・No animals or pets allowed (express permission may be required for trained, harnessed, or service animals)
Guidelines for cosplay
Cosplay is full of creativity. EVO JAPAN also supports cosplayers to challenge the cosplay of their favorite fighting game characters. however! Remember that EVO JAPAN is an event for all ages and follow the guidelines below. If you have an unknown costume or behavior, you may be sent off from the event or changed into normal clothes.
・Changing clothes is limited to the designated changing rooms. It is strictly prohibited to make up or change clothes in restrooms.
・Costumes that are offensive to public order and morals are prohibited.
・Shoes must be worn at EVO Japan 2023.
・Clothing must be covered with opaque material.
Costumes must be able to pass through entrances and exits and not obstruct traffic on the concourse or inside the Tokyo Big Sight venue.
・If your costume is particularly large, if it obstructs visibility, or if it has feathers, spikes, or other protrusions that you cannot control, you must be accompanied by an assistant at all times. You may be asked to change your costume if it interferes with the safe movement of other guests.
・Costumes must not resemble police, first-aid, security, or government uniforms in order to ensure that EVO Japan first-aid and security staff are identifiable.
Prop Weapons and Replicas
Prop guns and other items that violate Japanese laws and regulations are not allowed at EVO Japan. Replica weapons are allowed, but the following items are prohibited.
All metal weapons
・Firearms, ammunition, rifles, shotguns, handguns, blowguns, tasers, laser pointers, laser sights, and all laser devices
・Explosives, incendiary devices, chemical weapons, tear gas, mace, etc.
・Knives, live blades, live swords, daggers, blades built into canes (regular canes are acceptable), switchblades, butterfly knives, axes, hatchets, hatchets, kunai, ice skating boards
・Metal pole arms, bats, paddles, stilts, golf clubs, etc.
・Archery and hunting bows, arrows
・Nunchakus, brass knuckles, whips, etc.
Other requests to the participants
Any person found to be intoxicated due to drugs or excessive alcohol consumption at EVO Japan 2023 may be asked to leave the venue forcibly. If you do not cooperate in leaving the venue, we will contact the local police.
Sexual acts, blatant nudity, solicitation, or sexual depictions without consent are prohibited at EVO Japan events. Anyone who violates this policy will be excluded from the event and will not be allowed to participate in future EVO Japan events
